I was petrified the doctor would call the police, but instead he referred me to a psychiatrist. Within a week, I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and told I was suffering from psychosis.
It was such a relief to know what was wrong. Within six weeks, the fog of dangerous thinking lifted thanks to regular counselling and anti-psychotic medication. I even went back to uni and got a journalism degree in 2006.
