A good friend passed away unexpectedly this week. Heart attack. He was a bus driver and I’m now covering his route for the next week. The first couple of runs were somber, to be sure. His kids loved him. So, yeah. Depressing.
I’ve been approached about filling his position. I already have a day job that is supposed to be full-time, but it’s not. Talked to my boss about doing both jobs part-time today and he was unhappy that I wouldn’t be available whenever he needs me if I take the bus driving position. Well, I’ve been waiting for full-time for months. I know the economy is crap right now, but I either need the hours I was promised when I was hired or I need to find those hours elsewhere.
I’m higher functioning than most neurotypicals so it’s not like other employers won’t hire me if I go looking. Reliable people are always in demand. Frustrated that my current boss isn’t getting that.
What exactly did you say to your boss, maybe a conversation about it is needed, explaining exactly what you said to us. [quote=“shutterbug, post:1, topic:48337”]

I sent a polite email pointing out what I was promised over six months ago, what I have actually received over those six months, and what my current situation is as a result. I’ve been very patient with his needs but have reached the point where I am forced to put mine first. My preference is to stay at my current position in a full-time capacity. I’m willing to compromise and work part-time at the current job and part-time at another to make ends meet. Just working part-time driving truck is no longer feasible, so I need his help making things work.
