I have been taking them since I was 15. I couldn’t tell you if they have an effect, because I don’t really remember how things were before I started them.
My psychiatrist recommended omege 3 fish oil with 1500 EPA and 500 DHA to me. He says there is research that shows it improves cognitive performance, which is my primary concern.
I did miss them for about a month once, when I forgot to buy more at the grocery store. I remember feeling worse that week, but it could have been psychosomatic.
Omega 3 is one of the few supplements which help with cognition irrespective of whether have mental disease or not. To notice effect need to take it daily for at least 3 weeks. Also if not take it for 3 weeks straight you can notice decline in cognition also. So its not a ready to feel like supplement.
I recommend now foods brand omega 3 (normal one without enteric coating). Its cheapest and also very effective. Just need to take 1 soft gel per day preferably in morning with milk or other fatty food for best absorption. Avoid taking it in evening or later part of the day as its stimulating one and can interefere with sleep.
I take this one. Its from algae and it is very gently processed
Omega 3 fatty acids go unstable easily so it’s good to get one that is extracted gently.
Idk how good fish oil ones are but I personally wouldn’t take them because I’m trying to be a vegan and plus idk how the extraction process is, how gentle it is
I take fish oil capsules for my high triglycerides. I just started taking them last month, so I’m not really sure if it helps with my depression, as well. But I do know it’s super healthy for you – whether it be for mental or physical health.
