Olanzapine and low motivation!?

Does olanzapine interfere with motivation? Or is it just me that’s extremely lazy?

Yes it can have a negative impact on motivation.

I had no motivation when I first got sick and two years later I was put on Olanzapine and I think it might’ve been a little bit easier for me to do things like shower, go for walks and go places around town. But I had bad akathisia from one of the meds I was on and couldn’t dream so I had to switch meds, oh and I became almost 300lbs too.

It makes you docile and gets you in a eat, sleep, repeat routine.

I’m on Abilify and I have the same problem. I thought olanzapine was supposed to be better for motivation than most APs.

Lack of motivation or “avolition” is a negative symptom of schizophrenia.

You’re not lazy.

Olanzapine is pretty bad when it comes to motivation. Anything above 7.5mg has been very hard on me, to the point I can’t really work. On 5mg now, but even with this dose things are really hard. And I know it’s olanzapine from briefly switching to low dose latuda, and low dose seroquel. Motivation came back with a vengeance. Sadly because of physical side effects I could not stay on those meds.
