first I would get pain in the front of my head, then i would get pain in the neck and back of my head. If i didn’t catch it in time with pain medication the two pains would join on the side of my head to form one major pain and forget pain meds, nothing would help. Not even morphine. They would last for a day or so and I could do nothing but lie there in agony. Then I would have the visual disturbance lasting a day up to three days where everything looked like it had a halo or aura. It was hard to function at all.
Thank god I’ve learned my warning signs and can 99.99 percent of the time can ward off a migraine by taking acetaminophen with caffeine at the first signs of one. Luckily one hasn’t slipped through in years, I feel truly blessed to have learned this technique. Living with migraines is the worst thing ever.
I get something similar,
flashy lights and lines and shapes,
it’s intense, everything gets bright, or has lights around it.
still there when i close my eyes. makes me feel nauseous and panicky, real dizzy, get sick sometimes or have to lay down.
i still don’t know what’s causing it, have to get an mri soon.
i’ve been told it sounds similar to epilepsy. no one knows what it is for me yet.
Sounds like epilepsy to me. My younger bro had auras and then a seizure. But apprently his seizure was caused by stress and isn’t epilepsy. He even had a brain Mri scan.
A few mornings ago I had the same type of thing happen.
I woke up and started seeing flashing lines of color on the wall and then I saw a spider like thing crawl up the wall. It really freaked me out, I thought I might be starting to have another break. Even when I closed my eyes, there was still interference there.
After I settled down I started looking online, from what I read it sounded like it could be an occular migraine.
I think mine was triggered by stress. I went to a holiday craft show at a high school, which actually went really well. But I stupidly decided to check Kohl’s out and it was utterly packed, I had my headphones in but I was still majorly on edge and stressed out. Once I got home I could still feel the effects, my leg kept twitching when I was trying to relax. It was the next morning that I saw the lines thing.
I get these. You have to be careful when going to the ER when you have these because they will attribute darn near everything to them! I had TIA symptoms and high blood sugar from stress that was at first called just a migraine because I said my vision was blurred. And this is with a history of TIAs and a previous possible stroke.
These things were so powerful i felt they might be more than a occular migraine.
Ive looked up images for occular migraines to see what people have experienced and while it seems similar, its not nearly as intense as what i was getting.
It felt like my entire brain was having a spasm. Im concerned its epilepsy
A migraine doesn’t have to have headache pain to be a migraine. There’s a ton of other symptoms a migraine can cause… But my visual auras also used to be kinda like that, I couldn’t see anything and had to just sit and wait it out. Once it went away, I could finally go back to whatever I was doing. I’m really not sure why… I haven’t gotten them like that since.
Both chronic migraines and epilepsy can cause visual auras, and there’s a surprising amount of similarity between the two, supposedly. It definitely doesn’t have to be epilepsy. If it was continuous and making you throw up, it would sound more like a migraine? Again, they can be similar, though and a professional in that field is obviously more qualified to tell. Either way, if you’re worried about epilepsy, a neurologist is where you’d wanna go, and an EEG is how epilepsy is typically diagnosed. Epilepsy has been a R/O for me, as well, so I understand the concern.
