Now taking my medication in the morning

Instead of before bed. As a result, I’m sleepy during the day, but I think it’s better than sleeping for 13+ hours at night and missing the day entirely. Still feel like I haven’t be truly awake in years, but, what can you do :stuck_out_tongue:

I suspect there is something wrong with the way people with this illness (and these meds) sleep. I had a sleep study a number of years ago and there are apparently 4 stages of sleep. This study showed that I had no “stage 2” sleep. Then a technician told me that was just an anomaly of how the study is done.
Have you heard of REMS sleep? That is the deepest level (“stage 4”) and that is when we dream. Could that be missing as well? I do dream, both frustrating and happy dreams. Mostly frustrating lately.
I’ll bet there has been research on this topic and it probably came up empty.

Hmm well I was reading up on the sleep stages, REM specifically a while ago when I was trying to get back to lucid dreaming (lost my ability to do that in my early teens). I’m certain any medication that sedates is going to mess with the natural progression through sleep stages, but then again, so does insomnia, which a lot of us also have. People with sz tend to sleep poorly, is one thing that’s for sure. The thing with sleep studies is you can’t really account for how being in the lab with strangers affects the way we sleep, right? I couldn’t imagine getting a restful sleep in a situation like that.
