Not sure if this is BS or not

Was given a mini lecture about not turning up for my depot on time a few times lately. According to the nurse with my depot(risperdal consta) if it’s a couple of days late the the levels really dip and if it happens too many times they have to go back to square one and put you on oral while having the depot till the level reaches a therapeutic point.
Considering I had read(which I told the nurse) that it doesn’t completely leave your system till 5-6 weeks after going without it I am hard pressed to see that a couple of days or even a week would make a big difference.
However it seems to be their policy to try and ensure people are less than a couple of days left with their depot.
The cynical part of me wonders whether this is a subtle way of trying to ensure compliance ie if you miss a few days then the levels’ll really dip and you could get ill.

I think this is probably a means of covering their own backs. Just in case you do something dangerous on the few days your depot is “late”. I call BS on the idea it drops dramatically if taken a few days late.

As an aside do you get your depot at home or do you go to a clinic? My CPN gives me my depixol at home so if it is done late it is there fault. But I regularly get my depots a day or two “late”. My CPN does not seem to mind. Think depixol decanoate is sometimes given monthly.

I normally have it at the clinic but the time before this one they came to the flat and gave it.
Maybe it differs from depot to depot as to how important it is to have it on time.

Had always thought it was detrimental if it wasn’t received on time. I couldn’t have them for that reason as to many negative delusions on doctors. I do keep appts etc but blood draws can trigger it for me bad and can be weeks overdue in the end.

"Plasma levels of risperidone will remain at steady state
for 4 to 6 weeks after the last injection.
• Levels will drop significantly over weeks six to seven and
then more slowly over the following two weeks "

So why the fuss?

i’m not on a depot now but i will say that my med wears off after about a day and i would start to get symptoms after maybe a missed dose

I am concerned about that term “compliance.” I have heard it used at the clinic in which I go. When , I get a little stable; I will need to discuss this with my therapist.

**Hi @firemonkey~
Can`t say why there is a fuss-but would be nice if they came to your place! **

sounds like BS. my doctor said it was okay when i changed my injection date to a friday instead of a wednesday and it was Zero issue at all. That’s abilify but it must be not much different.
