Nortriptyline?

My doc just switched me over to a new med. Nortriptyline. I’m a bit nervous, because I was on Amitriptyline for a while, and I had some bad side effects. But, looking at things, I was also taking Nyquil a lot, and that interacts badly with this class of medication. I didn’t know that back then, and I never told my doctor I was taking nyquil because I was younger, and didn’t know that OTC meds should still be reported. I don’t take Nyquil anymore, and nortriptyline supposedly is less likely to cause side effects anyways.

Has anyone been on this before, and what did you think of it? I’m being prescribed it for the migraines and nerve pain from the tumor. It really does make the pain much lower. I am hopeful that it works out, because things were getting so unbearable.

I have been taking 150mg of Nortriptyline for 30 years straight. I take it together with perphenazine at the same time. I also take Abilify. 150mg is the max dose for Nortriptyline that it is prescribed as far as I know.

Thanks! If you’ve been on it 30 years I suppose you like it?

I’ve been on Nortriptyline for nerve pain, and for me, it definitely helped reduce the discomfort. I was a bit nervous at first because I had some rough side effects with a similar med in the past, but thankfully, Nortriptyline wasn’t as bad. It took a bit to adjust to it, but I found it worked pretty well for pain relief, especially once I got used to it. I’d suggest keeping an eye out for any changes in how you feel and definitely letting your doctor know if something seems off.

This is reassuring. So far I noticed the first few days it really cut down on the nerve pain. Now, things seem more of less back to where they were. I go up in dose after another week. Hopefully that will help.

Are you still experiencing the classic SZ positive/negative symptoms or is it dialing these back as well?

Last time the amitriptyline increased my auditory hallucinations. I haven’t had any in about 7 years, and I am mainly nervous about them returning.

You should have said you lost yours. I have some spares you can have if you’re feeling left out.

That’s such a generous offer! As it happens, I have enjoyed my peace.
