Nintendo switch query

I gamed for years then lost interest.

When I had the ps4 it was pain in the arse to set up and you know avolition, meh!

I am interested in a handheld console.

The switch is popular and looks good!

Can someone 'sell’me the idea to buy the console?

What are its pros and cons? What are the ins and outs of buying one? what are its limitations?

If i bought an oled one what size drive should i buy? will 64gb be enough? do i need a bigger storage capacity?

C’mon it is black friday! Verbally sell one to me please!

I have one and I regret the purchase. It’s not worth $300. There aren’t enough games for the console in my opinion

I have the Switch OLED model and am currently playing Super Mario RPG. I just have the 64 Gb model since you can use a micro-SD card to expand capacity. I like it cuz you can play it hooked up to the TV or take it elsewhere. It’s not as fancy as a PS5 but it’s a lot of fun. I would def get one for Black Friday. Just remember that they’re already talking about a new version…

It is about £300 in the uk.

When in comparison for a full console it does seem exepnsive, i must admit.

If you like Nintendo games (Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, etc.) it’s worth it. There’s a few shooters like Doom 2016 ported over but if you like those blockbuster games like CoD it’s not on there. There are also a lot of indie games on there.

The steam deck is a major competitor and it seems it looks better.

What does anyone think of that console?

It runs Linux and uses an emulation layer called Proton to run Windows games. If the game has anti-cheat you’ll have issues.

My daughter bought one and she barely uses it now. She mostly uses her Quest 2 for exercise games and watching movies (Big Screen). She still uses her PS4 a fair bit.

I have found a steam deck new and sealed for the same price of new switch on ebay.

I think i would go with that for a portable handheld machine.

Thanks for your responses people.

I know my daughter is looking at one of those now as well. Her conundrum is that she is getting some financial support from yours truly so if she has enough $$$ for a lot of toys then she doesn’t need the financial support (it’s for buying groceries - can’t have her living on noodle cups).

I love my switch. I got it a few months into COVID. I don’t have the OLED screen though.

It does have limitations so I’ll start with those.

Cons
-it’s pricey for what it is.
-many games are for PS5 Xbox or PC only.
-has easy to lose parts, namely the joycon straps.

  • it’s hard to hit the ABXY buttons if you’re using the right joystick at the same time. (I might just have bad hand eye coordination)

Pros
-Easy set up and controller pairing process.
-You can use it handheld if it’s just you playing or on the tv if friends are playing.
-Has all the best Mario games (I love Mario games)
-Has a good selection of indie games.
-great screen quality

Ps. You will need more storage as others have said.

Ultimately it’s up to you and your needs. That’s not a small chunk of change to drop.

I’m actually selling mine. I’m tired of forcing myself to play games.

Rumors say there will be a new switch next year. I dunno?

I have a 256gb storage card in mine. But I have a lot of games.
