New Type of Antidepressant Effective in Trial

“This study looks at a new, potential medication with a different mechanism of action than currently available antidepressants,” said Borenstein, who was not involved in the study.
The drug, known only as NSI-189, is meant to stimulate production of new brain cells – a process called neurogenesis.

Hi @BarbieBF

Thank you for all of your awesome contributions on this site! I’ve gained much hope and encouragement from what you share and what the others share as well. I know my posts are too long… I’m working on getting more succinct! :blush:

Here’s a TED Talk on regrowing brain cells, just to add on that topic about our brain and mood.

You mentioned the detrimental effects of smoking pot-weed, and I agree. The THC street pot has been horrible for my son. He’s 20-something and the power struggles I’ve endured around this topic have been considerate.

What has helped the power struggle part has been him smoking ACDC, a HIGH-CBD strain of cannabis (20:1 ratio of CBDs-to-THC). We got a doctor’s recommendation specifically for that product. It REALLY helps calm him down (going through this for 4 years).

Maybe (?) it helps him feel “cool” because it’s marijuana? Sigh. I’ve had to relentlessly explain to him that HIGH-CBD cannabis is different from his (badly) favored street weed.

I’m too nervous for him to try Harlequin, a strain that is 5:2 CBDs-to-THC. Studies show that CBDs help lessen the effect of the THC but I don’t want to take the chance with a ratio of only 5:2.

The other thing that has been amazing for us is Charlotte’s Web Hemp Oil, dietary supplement legally shipped to 48 states. Real CW is not available in smokable form, that I know of. I’m guessing you’ve already read my posts about this. Forgive me for being redundant.

HIGH-CBD cannabis seems to be somewhat unknown in this community. I’m not surprised. My local bipolar support group, social workers, p-doc, police… all have no idea. But the clinical studies are viewable online! I print out the studies and show pharmacists and they all gasp in wonderment.

Anyway, I just hope anything I post has some benefit to someone, even not related to cannabis! Let’s keep moving forward, and again, thank you for YOUR awesome research and posting valuable information. @SzAdmin is a fantastic contributor too! :sunny:

PS. I don’t know how to post the Ted Talk links without a huge image appearing in the thread. Any tips? :blush:

THis is a feature - so people can just watch the video in the thread without having to leave the site (which makes it much less likely they’d watch the video).

@SzAdmin Ok cool! Thank you.
