New Research: How sedentary are people with psychosis?

Short answer is “Very Sedentary”

A friendly reminder for everyone to get out today and take a walk - even if only for 5 or 10 minutes (assuming you are not completely snowed in).

CONCLUSIONS:

People with psychosis engage in very high levels of sedentary behavior in their waking day and current self-report questionnaire may underestimate sedentary behavior.

Given that sedentary behavior is an independent predictor of cardiovascular disease, future interventions specifically targeting the prevention of sedentary behavior are warranted.

I miss my few days of exercise I couldn’t get because of the blizzard. I plan to go out today and try walking in the road beside the sidewalk. I live in a small town and this is possible here. I believe exercise is essential for me at my age. My body is unpredictable and depends on my getting out and riding around town on my bicycle or walking somewhere just to walk at least whenever possible. I let it slide for a day or two and I begin to feel logy and unclear in my thinking. Due to medication, we become sedentary as a matter of course.

I’m very sedentary, but I do engage in brief periods of high intensity workouts for brief periods of time. I’m a little worried this could cause a heart attack, but I have noticed no signs of heart disease in me so far. Healthy hearts run in the family. I’m so tense when I’m around people that I need to do high intensity workouts just so I can move. Most of the time I have such a tight grip on myself that my body is all resistance and no locomotion. I have to work out to counteract that.

I am very sedentary. I don’t go out much and am very limited where I’ll walk when I do. Walking round the centre of town(my main comfort zone) up and down the high street by myself just doesn’t appeal to me.
If I had someone to go on a long scenic walk with(to combat the possibility of getting lost) it would be a different matter. When I had a befriender we went on some long walks.
I do have an exercise bike but after 10-15 minutes on it I get bored so hardly ever use it.
The best time I had walking was with a group from the day centre. For the first couple of years we took the mini bus to a country spot and then proceeded to go on a long walk. I knew that so long as I kept up with the group there was little chance of getting lost. Then we lost the use of the mini bus and the group was shortened from several hours to 40 minutes. It was not the same.

I’m not very sedentary. I’m hoping to become A regular ultra marathoner. I also go to the gym for about 2 hours a day to get more excersise in without overworking my legs. At the very least 3 hours of vigorous excersise a day on top of what ever obsession i have for the day, biking, hiking, rock climbing. But as soon as im done exercising i take any moment to lay down in a darm room avoiding all human contact. Oddly enough i got obsessive of excersise around the same time i got ill

I’ve read about a scientifically proven short 7 minute workout that can be very helpful for people. Here is information on it - and there are smartphone apps that help guide you through them:
