Hello everyone,
on Monday (24/6/24) I was prescribed a new sleep medication by my doctor, as I have had hardly any sleep for almost 2 months. It is zopiclone (7.5 mg). Does anyone have any experience with this medication?
Hi. I do not have any experience with that medication in particular, but I have sleep issues as well. Good luck!
I’ve been on it.
It’s effectiveness wears off the more you use it. I think it might be for short term use only.
@everhopeful, how many days/weeks are we talking about?
I have been prescribed a ration for three weeks.
I’ve been prescribed zolpidem (Stilnoct). My then doctor told me I could only take it for 5 days continuously because it wears off.
But it’s a different sleeping med.
Yeah, 3 weeks is fine.
Joseph, you have to ask the question. Why you’re using sleep AIDS. Is your routine so broke up that you need them. And the side effects they can give you. Disappointing sleep is a very hard task. Managing to get proper sleep. Is a real challenge. Especially if you’re taking psychiatric meds and have the schizophrenia illness. I have come to the conclusion that I get enough sleep during a 24 hour period that I do not need a sleep aid. I get in a small nap in the afternoon. A short nap after supper. At least 4 or 5 hours of sleep at night. Totally more than 8 hours worth of sleep. It makes it hard to carry on a full-time job this way. Part-time jobs can be juggled though. Best of luck to you, Joseph.
I currently have a full-time job, so I don’t have time for a few “naps” a day.
Thank you
Sorry I don’t know about this med but has anyone suggested a small dose of quitiapine? I think that has worked well for some people.
@hippogal, I already took 50- and 100 mg.
It didn’t help.
i have read and have hypothesis that elevated dopamine transmission is responsible for insomnia which schizophrenics have.and to treat insomnia you have to take strong dopamine antagonist. like typical antipsychotic (haloperidol for example)
i suffer from insomnia as well and i started to take amisulpride 150mg +quietapine 25mg beside my current antipsychotic lurasidone 80mg. and i see improvement in my sleep.i hope this improvement lasts for long time.
I think the medication you are prescribed is in the same class of medication as Ambien which is the one I take. It’s very effective but I am entirely reliant on it. I have to take 5mg every night or else I don’t sleep at all. And when I get no sleep it sometimes triggers small manic episodes.
Mido I Think you are right. And I`ll P… for a speedy recovery for you. And I hope that you have Solved your sleep problem.
Could be worth trying supplements, like L-tryptophan.
