I’ve snagged some new instruments since I was here last and wanted to share. Don’t forget to share what you play!
First is a Martin D15M. It’s got such a rich, almost bluesy tone to it. My last Martin was a DRS001, so not as nice. I think that one had a spruce top, but my new one is all mahogany. Satin finish.
For Christmas, I got an inexpensive electric guitar: Epiphone Les Paul edition. I got a little Orange amp to go with it, headphones, and a super cute strap (yes, that matters a lot- must be cute).
My daughter gave up on the violin, so I “inherited” that, too. It’s a Yamaha AV5. I haven’t touched it because I want to re-build my callouses on the guitar first and make the guitar my priorty. I plan to play a bunch of alt rock covers on it. No Paganini for me!
And, I may have had my flute, but I’m not sure. I know I had an old Gemeinhardt. I found a place near the city that takes instrument donations for students who can’t afford them, so that’s headed there. Now I have a Pearl Dolce (yes, same people who make the drums). I’d love a Haynes model next.
Beautiful guitar. I hope to have a Martin one day. For now im in love with my Washburn G120SWE. It’s not a Martin but it’s all-solid mahogany and sounds like a dream.
How does your new guitar feel? I find that the comfort of a guitar is even more important than the sound.
It is the BEST! I like it so much better than my DRS001. It just fits me, you know? I’m really, really happy that my husband let me get my guitars. I was originally a French horn player, but I’m not so skilled now and learned that I just can’t go backwards. The guitar is something I had never really tried until a few years ago, so it’s new to me and provides that outlet that only music can. The acoustic is gorgeous. My electric fits me, too. It’s got beautiful striping on it, but my favorite part is that I can play it with headphones plugged into my amp and no one hears me.
Ive always wanted to play french horn. It’s probably my favorite instrument by sound alone. Guitar is much more convenient though, and i love that i can sing while i play. It’s not just an instrument, it’s a tool for expression.
Yeah but each instrument feels like a different form of expression, and guitar is the one that works the best for me. Saxophone was also very cathartic in a much more intense way, but it was unfortunately too intense for the people around me.
Just got done a TOTAL rebuild project on my Tele copy electric, and after much swearing and stamping of feet, it feels great now. It has a Floyd Rose tremolo, which I ALSO had to rebuild, and getting everything balanced is… a unique experience haha. But now it’s all set, and my only guitar with a “tremolo” (more properly “vibrato”) so it has a feel all its own.
Congrats @Happy_H!
I had to sell my acoustic last October to pay some bills. It was a little concert sized all mahogany guitar, similar to your new Martin. I miss it!
Today I’m concentrating on one of my pedals: the Sonicake Cry-Bot. It’s an envelope filter aka auto-wah. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what this thing can do - I’m using Frank Zappa and Buckethead as examples (yeah I know haha setting my goals kinda lofty there ) also Bootsy Collins on the bass
I am learning the banjo for the last nine months. The left one is my Deering for gospel and bluegrass and the one on the right is my Oscar-Schmidt OB-5 for old time.
Also play the didgeridoo and Native American flute.
