Never going out

I never go out of the house, not even in the garden, in case someone speaks to me about how I am.
I have no schizophrenic friends to talk to apart from on here.
I hardly see any of my family either.

I rarely leave the house myself as well , unfortunately. Can you get someone to visit you? Like a social worker or a nurse? They might be able to help you too.

I see Stuart or Kelly for 20 minutes every 3 months, that is the only support I get.

It’s better than nothing I guess. Maybe you could meet them for a coffee next time outside?

In my country there are some ā€˜aggregative centers’ for people with psychiatric problems (mostly schizophrenics).

I have a tracheostomy, an ileostomy and some paralysis, so I do get asked questions because I stand out from the crowd.
My negative symptoms are very bad so I don’t do much to talk to people about.

And everyone in our neighbourhood goes to work apart from me, and I live on benefits.

I don’t go out much either. Mostly because, I was ill for three years, there is quite a gap in my employment history and I’m on Disability and I feel self conscious and maybe ashamed about that.

Simonw, you can maintain a positive mindset no matter what. You are strong despite having a weaker body.

@Simonw do you live alone?
If you live with others maybe you can do different things with them.
It’s not healthy if you are completely isolating yourself.
Take things slow.

I live with my wife and teenage daughter, my wife spends a lot of time the garden and my daughter goes to school. I don’t have any friends apart from on here.

In my neighbourhood l think I am the only one with a mental health disorder, no one else is unemployed, disabled, there are not even any Muslims or coloured people, but that has nothing to do with it, it is only so you know what the area is like.
I am also the only mental person in the whole of my family, including my distant family.

Are there any group therapy sessions available through your mental health services? If so, that might be a good way to interact with others.

You have a highly competitive neighborhood and a healthy family.
Living with multiple illnesses is not your fault. :couplekiss:

Can you go out with your wife and daughter or have build a fence so that neighbors will not disturb you in your garden?

Can you apply to have a care worker visit you once a fortnight or once a week and take you on a outing to a place you may feel comfortable going to?

I am a homebody but am able to leave home nowadays and can even go grocery shopping by myself and go for walks.

Hope you will get help if you want it to go out and so forth.

Maybe you can put a chair out and drink tea outside for 20 minutes while your wife works in the yard. That way if people want to chat, she can help you out.

My personal experience is when people ask ā€œhow are you?ā€ They don’t really want to know details and are most often satisfied with ā€œfineā€ or ā€œdoing better, thanksā€ even if that’s not strictly true.

@Truemist8 are you from the States?
Just curious.

I never go out unless it’s to get my injection which is every 4 weeks or to buy food which is weekly. I stay home and I’m always on the Internet. I don’t have any friends either.
