Netflix gets rid of cheapest basic ad-free option in the U.S., U.K

I’m just getting a blank black screen when clicking on Netflix .

I can’t help but disagree with everyone else’s takes here.

Netflix was so good that all the major studios made their own streaming sites and cut Netflix out. The kicker to the customer is that we’ve gone from having everything in one place to them being all spread out and there’s no way anyone can afford to pay for every individual streaming platform at once. But when its all on demand, there’s no need to. Sign up to one platform, consume their content. When you get bored unsub and try somewhere else.

Streaming is no bubble. Network television is what is dying. All they have left is the news and sports. Everything else is a much better experience to stream. Personally I havn’t watched TV in about 6 years or so. Everything can be found online. I can watch what I want to - when I want to - without stupid mindless adverts ruining the pacing. I remember trying to watch films on TV growing up and it was always dreadful. Ad break every few scenes.

A few years ago in gaming the big AAA publishers decided they didn’t want Steam (a gaming web store) taking a huge cut of their earnings and all decided to make their own platforms instead. Now recently they’ve all come back because their own platforms weren’t bringing enough traffic. Its hard to say if something similar will happen with television networks and streaming sites but it wouldn’t surprise me. Or maybe trying to make some sort of joint collaboration with a higher fee.
