So I have a support worker and they left 30 minutes early a couple times I talked to the company about it and they said they’ll get them to do the 3 hours but today they left 20 minutes early should I ring up tomorrow and get a new support worker that will do the full time cause its annoying when I already told them
What is the support worker supposed to do in those 3 hours? Do you like him/her?
Support you, do things and talk, there OK but the service is for 3 hours and they’re not doing it
Okay. I’ve never had a support worker. Maybe discuss it with them instead of the company. My first choice wouldn’t be to go behind their backs.
I told the company before but they do it again, if the worker doesn’t do the time the company isn’t providing the service, they ever find someone that wants to work or I find a company that will provide the service
Have you discussed it with the worker?
No I’ve discussed with company they should have fixed the issue, the worker can do what they want I don’t control them, if the worker is a problem then the company has a problem
I would discuss it with them. A genuine conversation face-to-face can solve a lot of problems. But if you don’t want to do that you can always look for someone else.
I think I’ll call the boss get a new person who will do the time provide the service, I’m not their boss and I shouldn’t have to tell them especially after I told the company already, this is my 3rd company there’s always something it’s hard to find good workers
I’m more easy going. I have a cleaner who also sometimes finishes early or takes long breaks. I don’t mind because I like her and life can be hard.
My first company the worker was ripping me off saying that they were working when they weren’t and taking money they weren’t didn’t work for so I have to be strict now and time is important if you don’t respect peoples time then you don’t respect people
I understand you’re frustrated. But just try to remember you catch more bees with honey. If you’re rude they won’t help you at all.
It is unfortunately a very common issue with support workers. Padding their hours. Or showing up very late. Nobody should have to be asked to do the job they are being paid for. But you’re very likely going to have this problem with any worker you get. It is an imperfect system, but you can still try to get the most out of it.
Telling the worker that you strongly value sticking to a schedule, and struggle with unexpected deviations, might help a lot. Framing it as a mental health need as opposed to pointing out that they are being flaky. It’s not exactly honest, because they are the one being unreliable, but they are more likely to change their behavior if they think doing so is actively helping you, as opposed to feeling like they are in trouble.
Support workers tend to be people who can’t hold a regular job, who love helping but react strongly to perceived criticism. This is an over-generalization, but not an inaccurate one.
I talked to the manager, hope they fix the problem
My therapist sounds like she really doesn’t give a damn. She calls 10 minutes late and tries to get off the phone 20 minutes later.
