N-acetyl ceystiene induced cognition decline

i have taken NAC for only 3 days
1200mg/day and i noticed decline in cognition specially verbal fluency and reading and attention even after discontinueation. anyone have experienced this? is this permanent effect? how to counteract this?

Bro you were the same for metformin no? NAC can take week/months to work. No permanent damage done here

Could this be just a case of hyper vigilance? I mean it certainly could be, and then a more harsh critic of your being? Possibly…but I’m not going to try and nudge you into deciding one way or another, you know at the end of the day more then I could, but I see this as something to gauge with yourself and see if it feels like it might be a thing you could be falling into.

I have seen no problem at 1000 mg a day for 50 days.

Cognitive decline is unlikely. NAC is produced naturally in the body so it should be well tolerated at recommended dosage. It could be a coincidence this happening. Or maybe a bad quality brand.

my hypothesis is that NAC mess with brain glutamate so that could be the reason why i have cognition decline from i. i am not sure if this is true or not though

i have find this research its said that NAC caused neuronal death

It’s possible that you had some sort of allergic reaction to it, but I think cognitive decline is not common. I have taken NAC on and off for years without problems.

But yeah, if you think it’s bad for you I would stop too.

this isn’t the first time i get weird unexpected side effect from drugs. now i feel sad and regret taking it and the other drugs before.i hope i have fast recovery from this as it will definitely affect my life negatively.

Bathing cells in stuff is going to kill them. The mechanistics of this paper are beyond me but in vitro does not equal to in vivo. Moreover if you see an effect in vivo you can go back to the cell level and look for the mechanism of action but really not the otherway round. You can’t necessarily look at an effect in vitro and extrapolate that to animal models. Pieces of information like this can add context and help shape the conversation but the can not be relied upon as evidence for the case in absence of cohesive picture.

If you put cells in lemon juice do you think it would kill them? Probably… does that mean lemon juice is going to give you brain damage and cognitive impairment? To say that lemon juice would kill you brain cells and give you cognitive impairment is understandably it’s a leap. If you based your inference off bathing live cells in lemon juice. High concentrations of any substance are going to be toxic, the dose makes the poision. In the case of cells outside of an organism they are highly vulnerable and sensitive to changes in their environment as these are normal kept in homeostasis at the level of the organism.

i am not a scientist but i think the bathing media is neutral also in scientific research the in vivo and vitro effect almost similar nothing significantly will change as NAC reach the brain in adequate concentration to induce its effects.and the NAC have proven toxic effect and the researchers identified the mechanism.and they added Trolox and ascorbic acid and Cycloheximide and other chemical substance .these chemical substance didnt produce any toxic effect on the contrary they have protective effect and as the research stated these chemical substance attenuated the neuronal death.
thats my understanding and i may be wrong.

i want to add that it made me have extrapyramidal side effect specifically dystonia also it made me have bad mood and feel sad and made me woke up lazy and not refreshed like before.
NAC messed up with my brain chemical and this unfortunately is irreversible side effects.
it seems my brain chemistry is sensitive to drugs.

How did you cure Dystonia? When I had Dystonic reaction years ago, an injection of Benadryl cured immediately. Strangely, I was able to verbally communicate faster (but lasted only 10 minutes). Cogentin as PRN is also supposed to cure Dystonic reaction (as well as other conditions). Thankfully, I only had Dystonic reaction one time. Definitely stop taking whatever gave you Dystonic reaction and never take it again; it means you’re acutely allergic to it.

i wont take NAC again. in my condition its like a poison!! regarding dystonia i have read that Benzatropine(cogentin) works great for it but i hesitate to take it as it have adverse effects. i will have to live with all this sh!t that NAC caused to me.

If you have Dystonia right now, you need emergency medical attention. A very severe condition. Can’t just live with it – it’s too painful. When I had Dystonic reaction, it felt like my lower jaw was trying to rip away from my face. Didn’t have full control of certain upper-body movements.

You sure you have Dystonia? Must be something else.

I take NAC for depression. With it I feel so much better. About a week after quitting it I feel bad again.

Do you also take an AD?

to make it clear to you what i have is irregular movements in my body like Parkinsonism and dystonia or seizure…i cant tell. but it’s sure related to extrapyramidal side effect.

Well, you need to get a diagnosis, so you know for sure. It’s definitely not Dystonia. I don’t think you know how severe dystonic reaction is. EPS usually a bad side effect from anti-psychotic. Not whatever this NAC thing is.

till now i still suffer from the permenant side effects of this sh!t drug.and i dont know what to do. it messed up with my brain neurotransmitters specially glutamate. and i need a drug to counteract its horrible effect but i have no idea what is this drug could be.i really need help
