My thumb won't stop twitching

My thumb and sometimes parts of my right hand won’t stop twitching.

It’s not constant but happens very frequently.

It seems to be getting worse.

I am definitely going to bring it up with my psychiatrist.

Like @everhopeful brought up earlier, I’m starting to think that it could be TD.

I hope not.

I had the same thing when I was taking Haldol.

If it’s any consolation, my psychiatrist said it wasn’t TD. Also my thumb twitching got worse first, then more or less went away.

It would naturally be interesting for me if you got the opinion of your psychiatrist. It would be like a second opinion !

I have developed a ‘tick’ in my left hand. I hold my hand with my pointer finger out and the rest of my hand closed, like I’m making a gun with my hand. I can’t help it, my pointer finger is always extended no matter what I’m doing.

I also do these little quick shrugs of my shoulders.

I think it’s because of the medication in my case.

I hope your twitching thumb ends soon. It must be really annoying.

Actually, are you still on Clonazepam or have you come off it/reduced your dosage?

I’m still on Clonazepam at the same dose.

Another thing: my thumb twitching improved after taking vitamin D. I see on the internet that thumb twitching etc, can be caused by low vitamin D. Might just be a coincidence, but I thought I’d mention it.

I’m just taking the RDA of 600IU a day.

I have increased my caffeine intake.

I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning give or take.

I don’t think it’s the caffeine but I do think that it’s some kind of EPS reaction towards Antipsychotics, in my case Risperidone.

That’s why I take 50 mg of Benadryl every day. It makes the twitching go away and its an OTC medication.

I also take benedryl for anxiety attacks

Even low doses of Benadryl would put me to sleep

I get the same at times, especially when I’m on 30mg of Abilify. I’m currently on 25mg and I experience less twitching. It comes and goes. I sometimes get ticks on my chin or cheeks. Sometimes I get uncontrollable muscle movement in my upperlegs or back. It always gives me a scare when it happens. My psychiatrist once prescribed Disipal for me but I never took it.

I’m twitching, shaking, grimacing. My med provider thought that stuff was of concern, so she sent me to a neurologist. He said don’t worry, everything is Okay.

Are you on high dosages of AP’s and how many years?

It used to make me drowsy so I take it before bed. But after a while you get used to it and it doesn’t make you drowsy anymore.
