Here is my state of the collection post. The straps came in this morning. Every watch except the g shock is on a grey watch gecko nato. I have one more watch to get then I’ll be done for a while. I’ll have a full box and a g shock. Here is the collection.
Looking Sharp!
Watches are just status symbols now. Nobody really needs one as we all have the time on our phones.
They look nice as an accessory too.
That’s a really nice collection! I like the sport style bands. Really cool!
I finally caved and bought an apple watch during the recent Amazon Prime Days.
beautiful watches…good for you.
Actually, smartwatches paired to our smartphones via Bluetooth are useful in terms of mobile credit card payments, heart rate monitoring, step counting and music listening. But that’s if one owns a smartwatch.
What’s the battery life like?
I don’t really know the battery life because the Ultra is not being worn. I bought the Ultra for my 70+ year old father but he doesn’t want to wear it, yet. Supposedly, the Ultra has the longest battery life of all Apple Watches. I like the night mode where all the metrics appear in red text.
I wear a cheap watch out on the lake so I know the time.
I don’t take the $2,500+ phone on the lake, that is for darn sure.
Thanks for the reply’s guys. Yeah watches def aren’t a necessity in most daily life. I caught the bug in 2020 and have been into them ever since. It’s just something I’m into and like to collect and wear and research. It’s mainly just whether you’re into watches or not these days. Smart watches are taboo or looked down upon in most watch communities lol. No they sell more smart watches than any other watch.
At least you’re not collecting any of the following:
- Cameras that use 110 film.
- Cameras that use 126 film.
- Cameras that use 620 film.
- Cameras that use Disc film.
- Cameras that use PR10 / PR144 instant film.
Guess what they all have in common?
That is unfortunate as smartwatch sales will exceed that of traditional watches in the near future. It’s similar for example of how DVD or Blu-ray disc collectors looked down on those who stream or download their videos/movies. Not surprised that DVD/Blu-ray became obsolete and streaming prevailed.
Yeah watches will be more for enthusiast than people looking for a tool. Used to be everyone wore one cause they needed to. Smart watches aren’t really necessary either as you have a phone on you most the time.
The way these watches sell out though I don’t see it slowing down soon. I mean It’s impossible to get a Rolex or limited releases it seems. The industry probably won’t be as ubiquitous though.
I’d compare it more to traditional bicycles vs electric. No one really needs one as we can all walk. But for convenience we buy them. But traditional bikes have appeal beyond the mass appeal of the everyday person looking for the most convenient use in the most regular ways like going from a to b.
My main reasons for the smart watch are:
- Track pulse
- Track blood pressure
- Track O2 sats
- Track steps
That’s it. My old Samsung watch died and I was looking at another, then I realized a bargain smart watch could do all the things I needed for $40. Didn’t have to spend $500 on a new Samsung watch. I don’t need Samsung Pay on my watch.
I’d say smart watches are less watch than they are gadget. They just happen to be worn on the wrist and can tell time. They’re useful though.
