My response to someone who claimed I'd admitted to being "Not too bright"

Where have I ever actually said that ?

  1. A learning difficulty is not a learning disability . It is possible to be gifted with a learning difficulty.

  2. Whereas there is minimal difference between most people’s non-verbal and verbal intelligence for a few there is a significant gap between the two. That is indicative of a learning difficulty.

  3. People with such a gap are often described as having a spiky profile
. In my case I average about 72(3rd percentile) for various online non-verbal tests.
However on sample Wonderlic like 25 and 50 question tests I scored in the 99th and 98th percentile.

  4. The presence of such a gap is an indicator that it is meaningless to give a full scale IQ.

“The Full Scale IQ is an averaging of these five scales, so it’s only meaningful if the scales are consistent. If a child is superior in verbal reasoning, but below average in visual spatial skills, the full scale number looks average. It’s akin to having an average body temperature because your hair is on fire while your feet are in a bucket of ice water.”

Most people , uneducated as they are about such matters, jump to the ill founded conclusion you jumped to.

I make a point of putting people straight when I can.

honey, I think you are stressing about this too much

you are who you are.

Just be you.

That’s a great point. In some areas I do good. In some areas I need help. I think we all do our best and we should be proud for our efforts and accepting of our shortfalls.

You know we each are our own beautiful color of the rainbow, truly.
