My most senior cat is at the vet today. She has a chronic problem that results in bad oral health. The treatment is to remove teeth. She is having her last 3 teeth removed today!
That happened to my cat too. But the vet took out two or three of his teeth and told me that it might be a few years before the rest of his teeth had to be taken out.
I’m hoping this will result in her being a healthier cat.
aww, that’s sad. I’m sorry your cat is old. I fear losing my oldest dog in a year or two but thankfully his teeth are fine.
I’ve been thru losing senior pets many times now. It is always hard, but their love and companionship makes that part worth it.
I hope it helps! Is she getting ulcers in her mouth?
I had a cat who lived until he was 19 with perfect oral health - the vet said that by teeth alone, he would guess he was maybe 5. And I have two year old who has had stink mouth from kittenhood - the vet gave me lots of papers that discussed the option of removing all teeth if the situation got worse.
@Rhubot, yes, she is getting sores in the back of her throat. She has never tested positive for any of the feline viruses, but she has chronic respiratory problems, with a snotty nose, sneezing, and irritated eyes. I think it is all related. If I had her problems, I would probably be cranky all the time, but she is the sweetest thing!
