My friend in California asked how old I was

He’s just had a brain infection (Encephalitis I think he said), and his mind is not completely there. He asked how my mom was doing, even though she died in 2018 and he sent flowers to her memorial service.

He told me he was 76 and thought I was 59. He was close. I’m 61. I really don’t know if he’s right about being 76. I thought he was maybe 15 or 20 years older than me. He was first friends with my mom. They used to work together.

My sister asked me about him a month ago. I called, and his phone was disconnected, so I wrote him a letter and gave him my new number. My sister and I were afraid that maybe he had died.

Well talking to him on the phone, his mind doesn’t seem to be completely there, but he’s ok other than that. I’ve known him since I was a teenager.

My sister and I were glad he was still alive.

He has an aid who helps him care for himself. She said over the speaker phone that she is 58. Her mind seems so clear compared to mine, even though we are about the same age. There seems to be a lot of worry over our ages by my friend.
