My dog is being spayed today and I’m nervous about taking her in

She is being spayed today. I’m feeling very nervous about taking her in and catastrophes that could go wrong.

Want my little pup to be ok.

Next few days will also be difficult with that lamp shade thing around her head and eating with it on and having to stop her jumping off the sofa all the time I case her stitches come apart.

Will be difficult.

Some humans could do with birth control. It would help the world.

It’s a good and responsible thing to do and I’m sure your pup will be ok. It’s no fun picking them up but they like you regardless so they’ll overcome that sooner than you!

Could you take a friend or relative with you? It might help to have moral support.

My mum is coming with me to pick her up and possibly stay the night at my house cause it may be difficult for me. But she is not available this morning, she is scattering ashes so I can’t bother her.

I am going to my walking group after I pick drop her off with my mental health team and there are support workers there. So I may be able to talk some of my anxiety through with them perhaps.

Don’t worry, your dog will be OK soon. I reckon birth control for dogs is a good thing to practise. @Qwerty

You’re such a responsible pet owner! I’m impressed with how well you thought this all out to make sure you have support taking care of your pup. She will be fine, and feel much better soon.

Don’t worry @Qwerty - spaying is such a basic and routine operation. Your pup will be absolutely fine. Just be ready to give her lots of cuddles afterwards as she will be feeling a little sorry for herself.

Hope she’s doing ok!!

When we got my dog spayed she was just very sleepy and sluggish for like a whole day and after that day acted totally fine like nothing was up and was her normal self. The operation overall is supposed to go smoother the younger they are, as the parts they’re removing are then smaller. (Of course you shouldn’t get it done too young either) I know a lot of people get it done too late when the dogs are already teens or older and not only is it more painful for them but they have already gotten some of the hormones and may have started inappropriate behaviors so they may keep that up basically forever.

It’s a routine procedure, the vet has probably done it a thousand times and knows what he/she is doing.

Yes. But she has figured out how to get it off lol. Fortunately she is not bothering with her stitches so I’m just keeping an eye on her.

Today she has totally bounced back to her normal self. Now I’m having to make sure she doesn’t jump off the top of the sofa or run up and down the stairs or stitches could open up.

Have to give her some pain killers and anti acid medication with food over the next few days.
