My doctor won’t raise the Abilify

I asked my doctor during our session today if I could raise the 2mg dose of Abilify to 5mg and she said absolutely not.
She feels that 2mg of Abilify is the way to go for me since I’ve been feeling stable on it.

She even said that on days when I’m feeling too revved up I can cut the 2mg of Abilify in half

I’m a bit disappointed but I think she’s right.

Lately I’ve been feeling a bit activated

That’s a low dose, and I’m guessing you’re taking it with another antipsychotic. I think she may be right as well… but I didn’t know you could cut the dose in half I thought the med had a long half life…? b ut im not an expert

Yeah 2mg is an add on to help with depression and mood stabilization

I’m also on 4mg of Risperdal as my base antipsychotic

I guess it would be alright to cut 2mg of Abilify in half because it’s an add on

I don’t think you could cut Abilify in half if you were taking it as your main antipsychotic for psychosis control @anon25873142

I’m on 10mg I don’t think cutting it to 5mg would be sensible for me at this point.

Do you have side effects from the Abilify? My doctor took me off of it because it made me jittery and I’d wear myself out by pacing around my house all day.

It wasn’t good for me even at a low dose.

I stopped Abilify for that exact reason
Would keep pacing around, couldn’t sit still

When I was on abilify at 15mg, I got akathisia. It was awful.

But I stayed on the medication, for some reason, and then about maybe 3 weeks later the akathisia went away.

Just an anecdote for folks who gad this same issue and didn’t know if they should wait it out

@Wave yes you might get akathisia if you raise it. But sometimes, it goes away with time.

Good luck

I had akathisia on risperidone for years until it finally went away.
