When I get up and move to the kitchen he follows and sits on top of the fridge while staring at me. Once I go to my room or living room he jumps down and follows me there. In the bathroom the door doesn’t close securely so he jumps on it, opens the door, and comes strolling in while I’m on the toilet! He sits in the sink and stares at me, or gets very affectionate and demands pets and I’m like of all times, cat! Not now!
Sometimes, he lets me pet him, but often he just wants to lay down by himself and stare at me. lol.
Silly cat! He does it without fail 90% of the time!
Sometimes I get up like where’s my cat and I go searching my apartment for him…only to have him appear behind me, coming from the room I was sitting in!
He’s only sometimes affectionate, but I think he secretly likes me. He’s just a jerk sometimes and scratches me when I try to pet him, especially if he sits in this one chair. When he sits in this one chair he becomes territorial and aggressive. I just don’t go near him when he sits in that chair. It’s ridiculous.
I’m trying to get him to adjust to being petted by petting him until he looks like he’s on the verge of getting agitated. Then I feed him a treat. It works usually. I’m trying to purchase more “My Cat From Hell” episodes to see what I can do to maximize his cuteness and minimize his violent tendencies.
Here’s half his face (got paranoid again about somebody tracking me down by the unique markings on my cat)

I had an old meowzers that would follow me down a quiet dirt road when I went for a walk and would love to not only sleep on my bed at night but to get under the covers with me. Kitties are sweet. Curious as ever though. My dad’s dog Ollie follows me around everywhere I go when I go to visit him. Ollie loves me and I’d like to think that old kitty loved me but not sure. She had me trained well though.

adjusts cat nerd glasses Petting can be uncomfortable or painful for a lot of cats. Plenty just don’t like it.
Try petting just his head for a while at first, no further down than his shoulderblades. This may help him relax and trust you. If you later try petting his whole body, make a U out of your hand and pet his sides along his back while avoiding contact with his spine. It’s pets along the spine that generally hurt or irritate a cat the most.
Cats also generally hate having their tummies rubbed. If he shows you his tummy, he’s saying that he trusts you enough NOT to touch his tummy. My cats both love having their chests scratched, though, between the forelegs and under the throat.
Your cat is also at max ■■■■■■■ age. He’s a sullen teenager too cool for his mom. He’ll grow out of a lot of this.

Okay, noted, I won’t pet his spine!
My cat doesn’t mind me petting his belly, but maybe he’s just tolerating his natural instinct to attack my hand. I’ll slowly stop rubbing his belly (I say slowly because it’s so soft and beautiful, I will have to wean myself off his belly).
yay! Looking forward to that time!
Thanks @Rhubot
you may take off your cat nerd glasses now and put on your human nerd glasses lol I joke!

This is totally the reason I discovered chest scratching. My kittens have terribly tempting bellies, too, and they’re constantly flaunting them. But bellies are unprotected and vulnerable, it’s kind of the equivalent of us baring our throats to someone.
I interpret all cat things like that, tho - purring means “I want to be close to you and I mean you no harm,” slow eye blinks mean “You are not someone I am going to attack.” Cats are territorial predators who are quick to startle and slow to trust, so they have a number of very specific ways to say “I am not a threat to you.”

This whole thread is hilarious. HuckFinn vs the voyeur cat, lol. Who will come out on top?

My 2 year old kitty that I picked up out of the road- has it been two years? She busts open the bathroom door, see’s me sitting, then she also has to jump into the litter box next to me, sticks her head out as if to say, “Me too” and when I’m done, she’s done too.
We both leave at the same time.
Sad, but it’s a daily occurrence.
Silly kitty, I love her.

My 9 year old cat absolutely loves to be petted! I give him full body massages and he just can’t get enough. If I don’t pet him for awhile, he will aggressively push himself into my face or hands to remind me to pet him. He is always by my side when I am at home and he sleeps right next to my head. He is very affectionate and loves affection. My old cat (that died at 23) also loved to be petted.
I know cats are very different from one to another.

My cat is exactly the same way. He follows me around and just sits there and stares at me. I call him my “sentinel”. My cat is also aggressive and he bites, or just nips really, whenever he just feels like taking a big chunk out of my arm or leg or whatever for no good reason at all. My cat makes no sense. And then, he just wants to get lovey dovey as if nothing has happened. Like what???
