Does any types of music make your symptoms (hallucinations) quieter, or more intense?
Just curious, as a musician myself what people think about this?

One of my all time favorite albums is MIGHTY LIKE A ROSE by Elvis Costello. It helped my mood go up. I’m starting to think rock and roll is destructive. It’s all ME ME ME! LOOK AT ME! But I am still a believer in the good in good rock. When I began to play guitar I’d bang away on it out of control but not making music. Now I’m a okay musician and I never abuse my guitar.
Hmm I believe music makes my symptoms more intense when I’m psychotic. I feel like the music talks to me directly or is about me. I still like music though.
I can’t listen to music when I’m psychotic, because I think songs are purposely being played to send me various messages, via the lyrics or the artist.
Not so much psychosis, but for anxiety/depression I find really simple meditate music where there is less going on really helpful to dull down my racing thoughts.
I don’t believe in any of the spiritual stuff that it claims, I just find it calming and stops noise in my thinking.
You should be distracting yourself as much as possible while having phycosis.
Distract yourself using music, movies, tv shows or start doing a hobby like Lego’s.
If they voices increase on you then that’s because they know they are being blocked out by distractions.
I just listen to jazz or some music of different language I don’t know. Because some music triggers me.
High volume music is bad for me.
Music is very positive in my life. Although I try to avoid melancholic music.
I wouldn’t listen to music during psychosis. I know it exacerbates my symptoms.
I like the lyrics and philosophy in music. Sometimes I have similar thoughts and some music resolve my issue.
Lately I noticed instrumentals and uplifting music helps. I like mellow music, indie when Im in a good mood or electronica. Rock music is cool too. It shifts my mood, helps me to relate how i feel. Music is studied as a tool to combat serious addiction. So I can see how it would be a useful tool for mental wellness. Other ways that help me are creative visualization, and writing in a notebook or online.
Yes.
There are three songs I can think of.
Have a cigar by Pink Floyd,
Children of the Revolution by Violent Femmes
and Gods and Monsters by Lana Del Ray
Though I have a past to all those songs and I dissociated when I was young which I learned when I was 24 in therapy. My mind wants to fracture it’s as if when I listen to those songs though my mind wants to fracture looking at pictures of my ex girlfriend from when I was 18 too.
It is impossible to say how I would react to any song in psychosis. Some days, one song would be fine, while on another day, it would provoke delusions and loose associations. Mostly, songs without lyrics were soothing, but they could also provoke delusional thoughts. Lyrics sounded different, at times, with words sounding like other words.
Playing and listening to music,
is like therapy.
