In this state than in the one I was last in. Like here it is really difficult to find any providers who take insurance, many want you to pay straight out of pocket. Secondly they all charge extravagant fees if you miss an appointment or have a late cancellation. I have never had that before. Like the last person I saw, if I missed an appointment I just had to give her the copay for the last appointment, so 45 bucks.
And she rarely ever charged me for missing an appointment, even if I last minute canceled because I usually had good reason and she was understanding. Here if you miss an appt they charge you 250 bucks!! My copay per session is 25 bucks!! That’s ridiculous!! And I totally forgot my appointment today. UGH. I don’t really like this state and want to leave but my family is here and it’s not a good idea for me to be on my own.
yea that sucks anna, I use to live in ny. they covered more and were more pro. Now I live in the south and they ask the money up front and the dr’s aren’t as good. its the governer, especially what they consider “priorities”.
Yeah I’m also in the south now, was on east coast before up north. And yeah all healthcare providers here, not just mental, ask for payment upfront. I understand they want to be paid but jeez. Plus there is so much more stigma down here and restrictions for those who are mentally ill I feel.
So sorry to hear that, Anna. I am in CA and it is also hard to find a pdoc or therapist that will take insurance. Most of them make you do your own paperwork. And for missed appointments, you have to pay the full amount. It is really upsetting. Non-mental health care providers are not this strict in CA. I think it is all about the stigmas against mental health issues.
