Medical marijuna

what do you think about medical marijuana?

According to the DEA’s website:
marijuana is a gateway drug that leads to 13% more youngsters to use heroin later in life

pot causes mental illness, lung cancer, and leads youths to heroin and cocain use

those that use marijuana that are in a depressive state have a 25% greater chance of becoming schizophrenic and committing suicide

All a bunch of utter B.S. they pulled right out of their a$$ with no proof or studies of these proclaimed “facts”

The DEA even states on their website that there is no scientific evidence to support those statements but is refusing to remove the discredited claims, and they refuse to acknowledge scientificly proven benefits of medical marijuana

Marijuana has untold medicinal purposes and uses, documented by numerous studies. I believe it saved my life and allowed me to function and survive life as an undiagnosed paranoid SZ until i was 27yrs old. I have had symptoms since adolescence was able to manage them by self medicating with MJ daily for about 15yrs until i became aware of my illness and became too ill to continue to manage alone and finally sought out a doctor. My pdoc agrees that i only remained as high functioning as i was for so long untreated because of my usage of marijuana to manage my symptoms. Now my sz symptoms were not as bad as i have currently but they were strongly present for most of my life. I was handicapped by my parents not believing in mental illness or depression so never went to a doc and i looked elsewhere for relief in my early teens. Graduated high honors 10th in my class and owned and operated a sucessful business for 10+ years after finding weed. I Dont think i would have even graduated without it.

It is legal in 20+ states now and the DEA still lists marijuana as a class 1 controlled substance, ahead of LSD, methamphetamines, and heroin. That is absolutely crazy!!

Now everybody reacts differently so to each their own, but i am big supporter of medical MJ for medicinal purpose, as well as state and local economic benefits.

Marijuana was only originally prohibited because lobbyists from the paper and lumber industry pushed for it after starting to lose major profits to hemp made products.

Big supporter here!! Go Green!!

I don’t know about the effectiveness in its treatment of schizophrenia, but for other issues I think it’s incredibly sad how some people have to take drugs with massively worse side effects, when marijuana could possibly be a better solution for them. Companies can’t make nearly as much money with marijuana so they don’t like it.

@Orion11 i didnt mean to give the impression to use for sz treatment. It just helped make my symptoms more manageable so i could function in the real world. Still was extremely difficult living thru those years but would have been exponentially worse without the pot.

I wasn’t commenting against you. I just meant I haven’t read much about its effectiveness against schizophrenia. Was speaking of my ignorance. I’ve heard stories about its effectiveness with other illnesses and as a pain medication.

I will ask my doc omorrow/.

I held a medical marijuana card in Phoenix when I used to be married and I also had growing rights. we had some plants create yield but we both smoked indoors at the time and it hindered the quality of the plants…Arizona this year was the only state that didn’t legalize after a vote. but it was close. I heard Obama just signed marijuana off of schedule I drug to a lower level.

Its a really big business i live where its completely legal. Its nice getting stopped by the police and instead of being arrested they ask nicely to put the j out.

No opinion, I think weed is a drug for people who don’t accomplish a lot in life.

Take amphetamines = get a lot done
Take marijuana = sit around staring and laughing

I looked at one article (so I have no idea if this is true), but cannabidiol (CBD) may be helpful for chronic pain, certain cancers, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, PTSD, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, antibiotic-resistant infections, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, and more.

I’m not referring to tetrahydrocannibdiol (THC).

I just intuitively never trust it. They come out with all these miracle things that it is supposed to do. I know that high feeling is from you brain not getting enough oxygen.

The fact that you are taking it by inhaling it doesn’t seem like it would be healthy either.

Most of all there is a political movement behind it so any number of lies and half truth can be said about it. This site is almost the only area I have ever seen something negative said about marijuana. Everybody else says that it is completely harmless.

I remember once that someone on the radio mentioned a study that was done that said it is several times worse for your lungs than smoking.

Also the final nail in the coffin is that people say it is not addictive but people are willing to go to jail and meet with seedy drug dealers over it. Isn’t that something that makes you think it could be something addictive. Of course I don’t have a mountain of proof because you don’t hear the media talk about it negatively ever. I think most studies are slanted to show that it is something positive. I have posted on hear sometime that talks about a lot of papers being untrue anyway.

As someone who used to think he was a Rastafarian, it really gets my goat that so many of you guys can still smoke pot. What’s worse is that they are legalizing it now (which would’ve been my dream come true). Am I the only one who becomes completely psychotic as soon as they take a hit?
I mean I also think it played a major role in me developing psychosis. My brain just can’t take the stuff anymore it’s an instant ticket to the looney bin if I smoke.

It’s documented that it works well for certain conditions. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone with Sz/SzA though because why mess with brain chemicals even more than the APs already do?!?!?!

It gives me real bad panic attacks. But for most people it has the opposite effect and actually calms them down.

I’ve only tried it twice. Second time it made me more uptight/anxious. Even though my experience was negative it allowed me to reflect on why it was negative.

The drug, like all psychoactive substances, is mind-expansive. It isn’t something that makes people stupid and lazy; that’s all reflective of the individual. I knew someone who used the drug and he was apparently an honor roll student.

Anyway, since the drug is mind-expansive, it is negative for anyone who is too locked away in their own thinking. So the expansive property can’t be felt and turns itself inward.

That’s my reasoning on the matter.

As for medical marijuana, well if it’s helpful for treating diseases why should anyone want to put a cap on it? No one wants to ban drugs which aren’t even nearly as beneficial and are more happy (unhappily) to take those substances.

I can replicate the super baked as a cake feeling without exposing my lungs to carcinogens wit some minor changes in my thinking I wonder if one more time I can controll the high so as to not be extremely fearful like a bad trip or how about the unending vapor fluid that never dries up the upper variety and the downer variety and the all a rounder variety

A few months after I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, I went and got my medical marijuana card. I had it for a few years. I don’t think it helps much with schizophrenia but it certainly helps with depression. Also when I had it, I wouldn’t isolate. One day my original paperwork was stolen and so I stopped renewing it. I still smoked on occasion until a couple of years ago.

it helps my anxiety a lot so yeah I think it has medical use for me. my friend said “you seem calm” when I came home and I said it’s because I smoke a joint every now and then
