My partner and therapist have been trying to convince me to get a medical alert bracelet. One that tells people my illness incase I wander off during one of my walks or something.
I guess it wouldn’t hurt. I doubt you would wander off but if your partner would be comforted by it, why not?
What would this kind of medical alert bracelet look like and who would be familiar with it?
As an adult I took off, trying to end up nowhere, repeatedly from the age of 18 to 26.
Are you aware Margie Profet and her story? Good news. Her story has a peaceful ending.
All I can say is you are 100 percent more safe when you do not take off, due to wandering or by becoming frozen or shock driven. And if such circumstances happen, everyone will expect to here from someone who will notice a MAB.
I see both your points, I’ve only wandered off a few times. Usually I find my way to a store or a park. I think they are more worried it will happen during a psychotic break and the police around here aren’t the friendliest bunch towards mentally ill or disabled people. My brother in law was beat up by some cops because he asked for his medicine. He’s more physically ill plus drug problems on top of that but he’s much weaker than the average man due to his diabetes, heart condition and liver disease.
no wonder your partner wants you to get the bracelet.? I think you should do this. I didn’t know you wander. Not good, cbbrown !!
I’ve noticed its happening less and less. My partner doesn’t like me going to the store alone so she put GPS tracking on my Nokia Lumia phone and turned on track my location. I think the medicine is helping with the confusion I feel when I go out for walks.
I used to wear a medical alert bracelet - but now I punched in all of my medical info into my smart phone.
its not a bad idea actually …
