I helped my boss once only with volunteering last month…I’m thinking they don’t need help enough to ever hire me and I’m ready to go back to work because in eight months or so I will be on social security. so no reviews to worry about losing my disability for working anymore…thing is…I am not good in public jobs…I thought about being a fry cook for a chicken restaurant here in town that is always begging for help…don’t know.
I believe in you man, you can do it ![]()
I haven’t worked in 25 years…and even then it was designing homes…but I cooked myself through college…I think I can I think I can.
You can do it @jukebox …all the best!
They telegraphed pretty hard that they wouldn’t be hiring you. I hear you on customer-facing jobs being exhausting, so fry cook sounds like it might be an option.
Being a cook is very high stress and very fast paced. It’s a high pressure job. I recommend finding something slower paced to start with and get back to working first.
True. I made all new hires work a shift in the dish pit before I put them on the line to see how they organized themselves and how they handled being slammed. This was back when I was the sous chef.
I briefly worked as a prep cook. I had no idea what i was doing, no food safe no knife safety just hackin stuff up.
Everyone was so stressed there it was hectic. Meanwhile id be testing out my mashed potatoes, and oh the prime rib, maybe some shredded cheese abd whatever else i could get away with grazing on ![]()
I remember the boss said I was going too slow in the dish pit so he showed me how fast to go, he did it for about 30 mins. When he came out I immediately said “yeah but you couldnt hold that pace for 8 hours” ![]()
Cheeky level ![]()
And… thats why i became my own boss ![]()
Yeah, you can, and I did it with my heart problems. I was also skinny AF back in the day.
Yeah i know but I wasnt willing to do that ![]()

Hey I knew my efforts were better elsewhere thats all. But it was an interesting experience

I remember sitting in college first semester in business class i was so bored learning excel. I turned to my classmate and said I’m going to start a business and make 400 a day. He laughed. Then i dropped out and started my business and went on to make more than that
that was a good time in my life. I was 20 years old. It wasnt without hardship tho plus all the mental illness that was developing!
I admire the hell out of you.

Thanks bud same to you!
Janitorial ain’t a tough gig.
Never a good sign if they’re always needing help… There’s a reason they can’t keep help
I know you’ll find a good job, just watch for red flags, if a place has high turnout rate stay away there’s a reason why
