I personally see religious beliefs as traditional and ones which promote the poor. Capitalism does the reverse in my opinion. Religion supports reward post death rather than promoting that work produces gain in this world… don’t you think?
There was the article in Aeon awhile back that talked of a tribe in southern africa who had a society where if someone worked too hard they were excommunicated from the collective. It was a hunter who was always hunting too much, well more than necessary.
Then there was the WASP in Australia who couldn’t and still can’t grasp the aboriginal way of life where they only work (hunter/gatherer)when they need to. They had really racist policies as it was such a contrast to the Calvanistic outlook on life.
At the end of the day, the Calvanist is no happier from his labour. He treads on others to reach the top self blinded by its religious ‘love’ while loving no one but its immediate family.
It is mind blowing the dufference between hunter/gatherer societies and modern capitalism which has destroyed the world. And no one is actuallty really happier for it.
