Maths and music

Someone recently told me being good at maths and music went together. However a google search gives ambivalent results.

I did music for 5 years at prep school as an extra curricular subject. I was abysmal at it. I never even took grade 1. I think some of it may be down to being quite dyspraxic though I’ve never been formally assessed and diagnosed as such. I do though fit a lot of the criteria ie poor balance, poor coordination, poor hand-eye coordination, lack of rhythm, clumsy gait(told I walk like I’m drunk),poor manual dexterity, drawing and handwriting not good, poor sense of direction, messy eater, difficulty with organising and planning, disorganised. I was mediocre at maths ie quite good at arithmetic, just about passable at algebra and if there was a geometry IQ I’d score <70.

  • I’m not good at maths or music
  • I’m good at maths
  • I’m good at music
  • I’m good at both maths and music

I can play the French horn (my main instrument), flute, viola, violin, trumpet, alto sax, clarinet, piccolo, piano (a little), and guitar (a little). I am very good at math, too. I worked as a financial analyst, and I loved it. I remember numbers easily, and I can do complex math problems in my head.

Music :musical_note: is mathematical if you think about it

Got my degree in music. Used to teach music and was good in maths at school. I loved algebra

Especially Bach.

I went to university for vocal music. Smoking has really damaged my voice. I also play guitar and piano. Music theory is definitely a combination of music and math. I did pretty bad at theory
