Man my homemade stews are really cost effective

Meat
Potatoes
Casserole veg
Barley
Lentils
Stock
Herbs and seasoning

One batch last 3 or 4 days and is pretty healthy. I love my slow cooker (crockpot)

I love crockpots, too! I am currently making shredded barbecue pork for sandwiches for dinner.

To pad it out extra I serve with brown rice and whole meal pita bread

I think I might try to make a vegetarian stew this week for me to eat when the kids are eating things I don’t want to eat (well maybe want to eat but shouldn’t lol).

I use mixed beans. Stews are great. I always put some meals in the freezer.

sounds really good man, esp the barley in there. That stuff is so hearty, but i cant eat it cause i found out i have celiac. Oh well. If you like this you might want to make some Sheppard pie

I have been getting bored with my cooking repertoire, so you have inspired me to get a slow cooker.

What size cooker do you have? You are cooking for one, right? I can get a 1.5 litre for £15 off of ebay, but will it be too small?

thanks for any advice.

So it sears meat too, then slow cooks it?

I haven’t used the searing bit. Not 100% sure but I think you put the inner metal dish on the hob first to sear the meat. Then put it in the slow cooker.

You don’t have to sear the meat though - is fine putting it straight in

Yes, seems pretty straight forward.

I went for a branded morphy richards one too. Seems a safer bet.

I got a couple of recipe books too for ideas.

I have an air fryer that has served me well for the last couple of years. Healthier chips that taste better than oven chips. And it does awesome chicken thighs in 30 minutes.
