I think it depends on the person. I only like kinky sex. I haven’t made love to my partner in years. I just don’t like it. Very boring and doesn’t do anything for me.
The emotional and romantic part comes after sex for me.

I think everyone secretly or openly has kinks, some are embarrassed to express those desires, but there are prob some weirdos who believe sex is only for reproduction and prob only do missionary with a timer with the lights off lol. 
For me, making love translates into having feelings for your partner, regardless of the kind of sex.
Imo, sex is always better when there’s an emotional bond, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say, I want to make love to this dude, so we gotta be vanilla for a bit. Lol nah.
