I have just decreased my risperdal some days ago. I felt better inmediately, with no side effects. My dizziness, which was strong, is almost gone. My hunger strikes are gone too. I feel incredibly good right now, and I hope to keep decreasing the dose.
I always try to stay on the low side of what I need. Have always messed with my dosages ,I’ve found that my doc tends to go a little high on the dosage but is very open to me telling him what I should be on, I’m very open with him about the changes I make on my meds. Over the years I’ve found I’ve just found I need my meds I know where I need to be within .5 milligram. 50 percent is a huge jump, I’ve done it and ended up going back up to my original untill I recovered. If you do it gradually and pay attention to your mood. You will find a good spot to stay at. I find if I go to the minimum some life trouble will enevitably push me over the edge with no warning so you have to have a little leeway. Sometimes I’ll do everyother day a half pill lower but I can’t do it forever. If your doing good on side effects and cost I’d probably not mess with it. Good luck. Take your time it might take 6 months or so to figure out if it’s going to work.
I got dx a year and a half ago. I was on 2mg Risperidone for about a year. 6 months ago, it was lowered to 1mg and I am doing fine. I have less restlessness and I have lost some weight. My rx is written so that I can take between 1 to 1 1/2 mg as needed for my symptoms. I usually take more if I am going through a paranoid spell. I also have Vistaril on hand for paranoia.
I wanted to try and lower my Risperidone to .5mg but my tdoc said that anything below 1mg is sub-therapeutic so I doubt I will even ask my pdoc
its good you want to do it with your doctor’s help. they decreased my latuda before when i was on invega and it didn’t end well. i was almost hospitalized but luckily i was able to convince them i didn’t need to be in the hospital.
I’ve gotten them to reduce my dose of Haldol before. I finally got them to reduce it to the point where I got euphoric and out of control. (Now I’m on Geodon and Seroquel, and I’m doing fine.) Be careful tinkering with your med’s. Keep your pdoc informed.
I was on 400mg of amisulpride and 5mg of olanzapine and I found halving both doses was ok I was still fine. But 200mg amisulpride is my minimum functional dose. When I went to 100mg I relapsed somewhat.
I would like to come off the very low dose of olanzapine I am on (2,5mg) and see if I can cope on amisulpride only.
