Lowered meds but still getting Akathisia

I really don’t know what to do

Have reduced my Latuda, but still getting it

The pharmacist is calling me this morning, and I have to decide whether to try Latuda at an even lower dose, or go back on Amisulpride

On Amisulpride it sort of worked for me at 800mg, but there were no side effects

I know that drug well as I was on it for 4 years

If I go back on it I will need ECG’s every so often, as it interfered with my QTC prolongation before

Don’t know what to do?

Tough call. Akithisia is bad but heart issues are another story.

I’d probably go for what you know works rather than suffer. I am not a medical professional though so there is always that.

Although the symptoms were not completely managed by Amisulpride, at least I wasn’t having to eat at 8pm, take meds and go to sleep before anything bad happened

The heart stuff is annoying, but I am not sure if the trade off between hidden side effects is better than one as pronounced as the akathisia

It has been horrible

Diazepam sort of helps it, but the Propranolol they gave me I think was too low of a dose

I am thinking better the devil you know

I’ve been aggresive with my meds. Tried changes numerous times for better function but ended up on the same old same old. Just relieves the pressure somewhat.

It was my pdoc who started all this med change business last year.

We have tried 4 meds this year, but we’re going to end up back where we started

His rationale at the time was my anxiety was secondary to psychosis on the Amisulpride

I’ve done that myself. I want better function. Lets try something else. Still irks me that psydoc choices were the ones I stuck with but he’s old enough to see the ends of institutions but young enough to see atypicals. He knows some things but a lot of it is guesswork. Still. His decisions have helped me no end.

There are some additional drugs that can be theraputic for akathesia that being said, you and your psychiatrist need to work through this I hope you find a good outcome.

Does Vraylar/Reaglia/Cariprazine cause Akasthsia ???

We have it now in UK. It’s official!

I read an article about these 3 meds.

For the indication of schizophrenia, the rank order for propensity for weight gain appears to be brexpiprazole > aripiprazole > cariprazine, the propensity for somnolence aripiprazole > brexpiprazole > cariprazine, and the propensity for akathisia cariprazine > aripiprazole > brexpiprazole

Because of the partial agonist activity at the dopamine D2 receptor, aripiprazole, brexpiprazole, and cariprazine are less likely to cause hyperprolactinemia than other first-line first- or second-generation antipsychotics. Other differentiating features of the dopamine receptor partial agonists compared with other choices include a relative lack of effect on the QT interval

Yes they can but Rexulti causes the least akathisia among these 3 meds. Cariprazine/Vraylar causes the most.

I take benztropine. It definitely helps with akithisia if at the right dose for you. I take 2mg at night and 1mg in the morning

This means it will be risky going on this drug if I am reading it right?

As Latuda 130mg has caused me severe Akathisia

Idk which have more akathisia Latuda or Vraylar. I think it also depends on the individual, some might get akathisia on a specific med while some won’t. I think you should try it.

I went off Latuda completely and my akathesia went away. My pdoc put me on a very small dose of zyprexa. Zyprexa has always worked but the side effects were intolerable. Now the dose I’m on is too small to cause side effects. lt has been a few days now and I’m not sleeping all day. I have worked out my problems over the years and think I may be all right on this small dose. Crossing my fingers.

I had bad akathisia on 80mg Latuda but not on 20mg Abilify.

I don’t get it as bad on Latuda but 30mg Abilify put me in hospital

Go back on Solian because that it’s ranked as the next strongest antpsychotics after Clozapine whereas
Latuda is ranked as the second weakest antipsychotics. Only illoperidone is weaker.

What about the QTC prolongation? That was one of the reasons I was taken off it. I was on 1.2g though when they tested me (I was on 800mg for most of the time)

I’m on vraylar and have no akathisia.

Abilify gave me crazy akathisia.

That’s encouraging - thanks for sharing your experiences
