Loss of emotions

Hi there,
since i have been affected by schizophrenia, I am experiencing complete loss of emotions.
I can no more feel joy, sadness, love … I am completely numb.
this issue started before I take medications. my doctor prescribed Zoloft for me. I am taking the highest doze for 5 months now without any improvements. I am still emotionless.

can anyone share his experience.?

I am the same. My psy said Abilify is best for this but I had side effects on it.

Try Abilify, its the best AP for negative symptoms.

I also have complete lack of emotions. No sadness, grief, joy. I still get a bit of anger sometimes. But, I don’t want to feel sadness or grief. If I were to feel constant sadness and grief over my son’s truly grisly suicide death, I’d probably be dead by now.

I was like this for the first 4 years of medication. Then they reduced my meds slowly and my emotions came back, without most of the sz symptoms.

I had that early on.
But after I finally became med-compliant, it gradually went away.
I have almost zero negative symptoms.

@SkinnyMe I am sorry to hear what happened to your son. I hope you are doing well.
I was with my doctor today and I explained to him that I feel emotionless. he told me that there is no medication to inhibit feelings and that I have to go out and chill.

My psychiatrist said the same! There is no meds for negative symptoms like apathy and avolition. It sucks but at least we got ride of positive symptoms. Right?

Positive symptoms are more dangerous than negative+cognitive symptoms.

I’m the same. No emotions at all. Complete numbness. I want to cry (I understand that this is where I would normally cry) but I cannot. They say it’s not only due to the medicine but also due to the illness. Though I’m not sure what to do in your case because you have mentioned that it all started before the meds. I read an interesting article recently on this topic there are some useful tips. Unfortunately cannot post the link here as I’m new. One of the advices there was ACT therapy ( Acceptance and Commitment therapy) to address emotional numbness that I’m planning to try out. Good luck and hope it helps.

I have no emotions as well can barely smile or laugh or cry. I don’t mind it but people have been noticing that Im really flat

Myo inositol seem to bring emotions but might affect short term memory. It reduces fear so need to be careful about your behavior and actions after taking it. The way how it works is like this. It reduces your ability to think deep so even fearful thoughts appear less fearful. Due to this less intensity processing short term memory get effected as information is not registered properly. Like other drugs tolerance build up quickly so take only occasionally and that too with smallest doses like 1 or 2g.
