I am on the haldol dec shot every 30 days, and it came to my attention that it is very hard on you r liver, actually most of these meds get processed through your liver. I have overdosed atleast 10 times without getting help immediatly, it was not until i was in a coma that i was found. Of course i did serious liver damage i am almost sure. I do remember they did am ultra sound of my liver to see how much damage i had done, and the results were inconclusive because my liver is fatty, so they could not tell what damage was done at the time. That was many years ago. I asked my psyche nurse practitioner to take me off the haldol dec shot and put me on a different dec shot that is not as damaging to the liver, and he said no, not until he does a liver function test, and then he would decide what he wants to do. I am on a lot of meds, both psych and medical. I am trying to reduce the amount to lessen the damage to my liver from all these meds, and he refuses to take me off anything, he said i am doing well, and he does not want to change anything. I also take Zyprexa, so for the last 3 or 4 nights i did not take it. Well, so far, so good. I am not having any symptoms so far, and if i do , i will take it right away. He also refused to reduce the number of seizure meds i am on, i take 3. I have not had a seizure in 8 years, and i only started having seizures back in my 20’s because of the clozaril. So he is forcing my hand, i am going to go to my medical doctor and ask him to reduce it to 1 seizure medicine and see how i do. I am nnot trying to make my self sick, but lessen the amount of meds that get processed through the liver, and it does damage. I take pain killers, muscle relaxers, blood thinners, and side effect meds, and i do not even have any side effects. In my opinion, i am being overmedicated. Please, someone offer me some feedback, am i wrong in what i am doing here?

Hey Kitty - I had some minor liver damage from Depakote ER - my liver Enzymes were a bit high, so my pdoc took me off of it, and my moods have not been as stable, but when I got off of the Depakote, my liver Enzymes returned to normal levels.
I hope they find a decent med for you that wont damage the liver so much, usually Invega is not so hard on the liver because a lot of it travels through your kidneys instead.
Take it easy and be well
