Learning to communicate again

After my last head injury and then psychosis and sza, there were times when I had no communication skills, I couldn’t comprehend most words or conversations I just got good at responding generically like"uh huh, ok" I like watching YouTube videos and livetreams to watch and relearn how to communicate, anyon ever had this type of scenario? Talking online is easy, in real life it’s a lot more difficult, but use to be really effortless.

Like @77nick77, I have really good recall for humorous events, jokes, funny occurrences…etc.

This has always kept me in pretty good stead socially. I can usually relate a chuckle to almost any topic on the go.

I’m comfortable conversing with everyone in real life…but I also enjoy the written word as well…like posting on this forum.

sure, I can relate. I can recall a conversation I had with my parents when I was in my mid 20’s. They were asking me which direction the door faces. I couldn’t answer them. I didn’t know and had no clue as to what to say.

Fast forward about 15 years and those feelings of being unable to communicate are diminished. I did a lot of things to feel somewhat comfortable in my own skin: I took a mental health internship, worked in marketing, in sales, and have worked a lot. One thing I learned that being an effective salesperson takes two skills: one, be likable. two, keep it simple. it’s the same with life and the people you meet every day.

Before I didn’t have to think about what I say I just said it. Now it’s like I overthink it. Despite my experiences, I still have trouble communicating.
