Does anyone here have any advice on how to learn, particularly mathematical/technical content? For a long time I thought I had some kind of late-onset ADHD but now I suspect it is cognitive symptoms. It feels like information just doesn’t stay in my mind well, in both the short and long term. I’m really worried about cognitive decline and am wondering if I should make a major career change as a result to something less intellectually challenging. Probably an even bigger problem than cognitive symptoms is negative symptoms - a lack of motivation to learn sometimes.
For context: my psychiatrist diagnosed me with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type. My therapist suspects I might instead be bipolar with psychotic features.
I know what you’re saying… I went to NYU once to try and earn a certificate in Accounting and what happened is I aced the initial course, but forgot all of it, and couldn’t do the next step, I got frustrated anyway and wound up cancelling at a late stage, these courses aren’t free either.
Yeah this sounds similar to my recent experiences. Do you work now (if I may ask), and if so what do you do? I’m just trying to figure out what kind of career is compatible with these issues. I still maintain some hope that with the right supplements/medication (I’m planning to try sarcosine and Vraylar) that this could improve.
Nah I’m 42 don’t work and am content nay quite happy, and grateful for my disability amount. I know it’s insurance that I bought into, so I try to make myself comfortable saying that… BUT I’m concerned with the state always being there for me…
