Lack of insight vs denial

What’s the difference?

Is lack of insight only when one is ill or do people get it when they are well too?

What about the problem so many of us face when we think we’re not ill anymore and there’s nothing wrong with us and we want to come off meds? Is this lack of insight or denial?

And why do so many of us get that feeling we’re fake or phony or lying about our illness? Is that lack of insight or denial?

Anyone got some idea?

Lack of insight is actually a symptom in itself. It’s where you don’t believe you’re mentally ill.

From Google:

Anosognosia, also called “lack of insight,” is a symptom of severe mental illness experienced by some that impairs a person’s ability to understand and perceive his or her illness. It is the single largest reason why people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder refuse medications or do not seek treatment.

Denial is different I guess. Normal people can deny things they find unpleasant.
