Just turned down 1k

So dad was talking of giving all the siblings $1000 for Xmas. I live with dad and help pay the bills. I declined. I sure could spend the money on a new 2k monitor, a decent road bike or mabye an upgraded graphics card but I said not to worry about me.

Dad always helps me out with car bills etc. I pay them back but I owe my parents a lot. They funded my excursion years ago to America and for me it’s paying back with karma…

Not every day you turn down a good bit of money.

Whoa! That’s a nice present you’re turning down there! In my family the budget used to be 500$ per person and we thought that was a lot.

I didn’t know you went to America. Can I ask what part of the country you visited?

I think it’s more about if your Dad would have to sacrifice. Since he’s already helping you out, I think it’s kind of you to say “No thanks”.

Dad has a lot in reserve. Enough to not bother him too much but still. It’s nice to say no.

@TomCat my sister just retired as a Saints cheerleader…she got married and is expecting a baby is why she stopped…pretty proud of her !!

@rogueone that is one of the noblest things I ever heard !! good for you !!

Mate, you know what’s best for you and your fam. I think you did a very kind thing.

I told my mom this year that I don’t want anything fancy or expensive. Cameras and all that stuff I can buy on my own.

I’m just looking forward to being around family, and being thankful that I have a sense of community.

Take care.

Are you afraid that taking the money will be bad for you?

I really don’t expect my niece or my daughter to get me anything. They’re college kids. My niece is really struggling financially too. I think her bf is a school teacher. I don’t think he makes much money. My stepmom is struggling too. I wish she wouldn’t get me anything but she always does. She made these delicious green beans for thanksgiving. I told her I wanted a batch for my Xmas present but I don’t know if she believed me.

It is really hard for my family to help me. If they hung out with me for a bit, they’d have a better idea of that which I go without.
