Just had an elderly relative try to torpedo Christmas

So I was all set to go to my brother’s place to orrow.

This elderly relative said they didn’t want to go to my brother’s place for Christmas. I would have had to stay with them (the elderly relative) for Christmas if they didn’t go to my brother’s.

Fortunately my brother’s wife talked them back into it.

But Christmas has gone from being a bit wheeeee/happy to oh well. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe the older you get the more selfish you get.

Older relatives pretty much exist to sabotage everything. Hoping my heart takes me out before I turn into one. Condolences.

MrSquirrel your disparaging comments about older relatives are a disgrace.

I am not a big fan of social gatherings or holidays. I like to stick to my regime and routine.

Dude, I’m 70. I am the older relative in my family.

Thanks, Chess. You’ve always been the first person I look to in this community for guidance on things.

We all (I think) get social anxiety and want to isolate sometimes.
Maybe your elderly relative feels that he can’t contribute to a social gathering so what’s the point? I’ve felt that way. But when I go anyway it tends to be a better time than I thought it would be. I’m glad he was talked into going and I hope you both have a wonderful time!

I like social gatherings and holidays. I recently attended a Christmas party my friend invited me to. I wish I could have attended my church’s Christmas party. I am planning to go to after Christmas shopping, it will probably be super crowded and busy.
