Just got bitched at by my mom's fiance/my landlord

My mom’s fiance, who happens to be my landlord, just told me I need to get out of the house or find a job. I have been sleeping a lot due to my depression and watching TV when awake. He got mad when talking to me. What should I do?

You have someone you can talk to , preferably a professional who can look for alternative housing for you to stay in?

Does he financially support you?

Talk to your pdoc, therapist, and Mom. Make a one word description that encompasses your day’s emotions. Example, depressed. Show this to them.

I hope you feel more like yourself soon. :hugs:

No he doesn’t support me financially @GoldenRex

I pay my own rent from the money I receive from the government. Welfare pretty much.

Do you live in his house?

I mean,

If you’re paying rent I don’t understand what his problem is.

Sounds like you just need to move out.

Have you looked into government assisted housing?

Yeah why is he on your back if you pay rent?
Maybe you can’t work because of your disability.
He should understand this.

I don’t know the laws in Canada, but here, he can’t legally kick you out without cause until the end of your contract. If you have his words in writing you can save them to use in a housing discrimination lawsuit if he does try to evict you without cause. Here, even without a contract, if you’ve been living somewhere over 30 days you need at least 30 days notice before an eviction can occur. You have rights, even if it doesn’t feel like it now.

Yeah I’m living in his house, it’s a year wait for government housing so that’s not really an option @GoldenRex
And thanks for that info @Ninjastar

Not sure what part of Canada you live in, but here are the legal rights in Ontario. They’re probably similar to yours

Perfect, I do live in Ontario. Thanks again

Even with legal protections, I would recommend looking for alternative housing. It sounds like things are becoming very unpleasant at your current place.

A year wait goes faster if you’re actually on the list. Might as well get on now and be ready.

I am on the list @LED

Sounds like your landlord\future step dad is having a power trip. Other members already gave excellent advice so I can not add anything. Best wishes to you.

@TheCanuk, do you feel comfortable getting a letter from a dr to give to him stating that you’re not currently capable of working?
