My pdoc just diagnosed me with Sz paranoid type. I didn’t think it was that serious. I though I was just hallucinating because of stress or something. Sz can be like a lifelong thing. Scary…
It sounds scary, but we get used to it… It is life long, I was scared out of my mind when I first got diagnosed. I thought it was all a lie.
I feel so alone.
some doctors don’t tell to patients, just to family members, do you think, it is better if person knows diagnosis ?
You’re not, we have it too. How old are you?
I would rather not have known. It’s so scary and I don’t feel like I can handle it.
Of course, people need to know. I’m guessing they wont say if the person is not responsive or is non complaiant.
you will get better, just follow doctors orders
17… I thought it started later in life?
Sometimes it doesn’t… There are a lot of people here that got their diagnosis at that age… I’m thinking @mortimermouse and @SurprisedJ and @anon40540444 .
What are your symptoms?
It is scary. The thing to know is that the disease can be managed. This isn’t the end of the world. Follow your doctor’s instructions and hook yourself up with a support system. They will help immeasurably. You’re not alone and you can live a decent life, have hope.
Yes, I was 17 as well. It can definitely happen at that age.
Paranoia, audio and visual hallucinations, disorganized speech. the voices are the worst though. I’m on abilify and it helps.
I’m glad the meds are starting to help you… I also had visuals, my voices are like thoughts, different thing. I have a bunch of delusions, meds help me a lot.
Just make sure you stick with your treatment plan, everything will work out.
Ah. Get a copy of Surviving Schizophrenia 6th edition. It will show you the ropes.
Feel free to ask me stuff. I like to help.
What “ropes” are they’re to show?
Everything. It is a comprehensive manual of schizophrenia. Medications included. Lists pros and cons of each med. Tells what to expect and how to deal with it.
I’m not sure when SZ typically starts; I guess it’s different for everyone. SZ is manageable. I’m sure your pdoc is putting you on some medications to do just that. Remember, there are thousands of people on this website that all have this disorder. Post as much as you need to. There are a lot of good people here who know what you are going through.
SZ symptoms started for me at 17, although I wasn’t diagnosed until 19. I promise - it gets a lot better once you’re stable with meds, and once you learn some coping techniques for making the bad times less scary.
I’m on abilify 10mg, what dose did they put you on if you don’t mind me asking?
