a few years ago, a buddy of mine who i know as derrick, told me one day to call him george, his real name, derrick was his middle name that he went by in grade school. i was cool with it, but i slipped up a couple times.

I changed my name legally a long time ago. Maybe you can get your family to call you Jim too.

Call me Ishmael…

So just curious OP do you pronounce your name James or what we would spell Hamish?

I am of English heritage so is James. I think in Ireland it is Seamus. You know in all honesty I never made the connection with Hamish but I think you are right! It might be the Scots version of James!
