Billy a nickname for William

Is that the same in America? I’m amazed how many young British people don’t know that Billy is a nickname for William which is my name.

My exs name was William and we called him Billy.

My grandads name was William and they called him Billy. Hence my name.

@FreeLunch I can understand that. I’m the second William from my grandad, if I had a son I would call him William as well.

I have quite a posh name actually and apparently sound posh as well according to some people.

My grandmother was born in england and moved here as a child. She had a mug w the queens face on it as recall.
