Jerking eye movements

The other day I was looking at an object close up and my vision was rapidly jerking around.

It lasted for seconds but it was disturbing to say the least.

I looked it up and the medical term is called Nystagmus - Jerking eye movements.

It happened another time days later and it too lasted for seconds.

My vision was rapidly “shaking” back and forth so I’m assuming my eyes were jerking around.

Then I found out that among other things, mood stabilizers can cause Nystagmus.

I’m on both Depakote and Lamictal.

Maybe I should bring it up with my doctor.

I get the same thing. I’m not on a mood stabilizer though. It started a couple years ago

I had that when I took lithium. Maybe its your mood stabilizer? Idk though, ask your Dr.

I get nystagmus. Im not sure what caused it but sometimes my eyes want to go straight up left and right forcefully.

I know it happened when i did drugs longtime ago.

it could be your antipsychotic
i can’t take olanzapine
i had eye rolling tongue rolling and siezing (severe dystonic reactions) which lasted hours
i think it might not be this though
nystagmus alone can be just mild and on and off like with Zannah
write down how often it happens maybe
talk to psych doctor

Thank you everyone!

It just happened twice and lasted a few seconds but if it happens again I’ll mention it to my doctor

I thought nystagmus was constant not episodic. My dad had it. Still good idea to bring it up as soon as possible.

Yes @anon25873142 now that I reflect on it more, I don’t think it’s Nystagmus unless it happens more often.
I could be wrong though.
I don’t know too much about it.

Tardive dyskinesia can also cause eye fluttering, twitching eyelids, and other strange movements of the eyelids.

It could just be a side affect of your mood stabilizers, like you mentioned. But it’s best to mention the symptoms to your pdoc, to see what they think.

Man, it happened again.
My vision was jerking back and forth rapidly for a couple of seconds earlier.

Yes, I’m definitely going to tell my doctor about it.
I see her next week.
