I've made up my mind. I'm going to try going back to work

I just spent the better part of the past hour of the State of Illinois’ jobs listings web page checking out jobs that I can do. I qualify for two of them, both entry-level office jobs. I’m going to go after both of them. They pay $3000-3500/month. I’ve planned to suspend my SSDI for the time if I need to so I don’t lose my benefits entirely. I’m gonna do this. I want to contribute to our income and let my wife know she’s not alone in this…try to lift the burden off her back so it doesn’t seem like a one-way street. It never was, but I think y’all understand what I mean. Schizophrenia is obviously disabling and no one really faults us if we don’t work due to the illness. I’d like to pitch in if I can. One of the jobs is clerical work maintaining inmate files for a parole board, and the other is as public aid eligibility assistant. The second job is basically handling inbound phone calls for people who have questions about their public benefits. The listings close on Friday and Tuesday, so I need to get cracking. Here’s to hoping!

Being occupied and with the mind off the illness is wonderful. Just don’t stress yourself.

Good luck

Best of luck. That is a decent pay wage and full-time to boot. I never could work 40 hours a week post diagnosis even though I wished to. The whole sleep all day thing gets in the way. Hope it works out for you.

$3000 a month is darn good money. I’ve never made that much in my life, good luck. Just like most jobs, you don’t know if you can do it until you try.

Just submitted my first application for a job not listed above, but a part time one. Here we go!

Applied for a merchandise stocking job at an electronics store. Spent 45 minutes answering goofy questions asked the same way 3 times over. I was honest though because those things are designed to weed out BS. Still annoying nonetheless.

@anon40540444 dude you were just saying you were going to try to regroup from your recent unstableness? don’t you think you are being a little hard on yourself?

SSDI has the ticket to work plan where you can work up to nine months and make as much as you want without losing your benefits. If you make it past nine months then your benefits would stop but you can have them reinstated within a certain period of time.

Got a hit already. A major telecommunications company wants me to do a phone interview with them!
