I've lost my ability to small talk

I don’t think it is something you learn. It either comes naturally or not.

This is pretty much what happened to me after my psychotic episode. Conversations take real effort and it’s mostly me just trying to come up with responses, none of which are genuine because my mind is totally blank.

I guess it’s nice to know that it’s possible to recover from that, even years down the road.

Use it or lose it. I think why I lost the ability in the first place was because initially in the episode I was so depressed I didn’t want to talk to anyone-it was a choice. I basically only spoke if spoken to or required to. Then after the episode had passed (it lasted months it was nasty) I wanted to talk to people again, but couldn’t. So maybe my conversation center in my brain atrophied who knows.

I have trouble with small talk too. There usually isn’t much of a response from my side of the conversation. I can only talk with a few people comfortably. I’m horrible at talking with strangers now.

I’ve never really liked small talk all that much.

Haven’t liked a lot of things and still don’t.

When people try to push me to like their bullcrap I start to retreat and get irritated.

I personally start to feel highly disconnected and depressed with small talk.

No one likes my thoughts or opinions sometimes because they can be a little too severe for them.

Lame.

What a waste of evolution to develop communication and have it squandered for ‘small talk’.

Glad to see I’m not the only one  thanks for the responses
